He Played Me For A Fool, So I Left

"Cassidy, Julian's been hurt. He's at St. Mary's Hospital! Get here, now!"

The sudden ring of my phone ripped me awake from my sleep.

I threw on the first clothes I could find and bolted out the door.

The night was deep and heavy with dew, and a biting wind slapped my face.

By the time I reached the hospital, a bone-deep chill had settled in my entire body – and it wasn't just from the weather.

I didn't even stop to fix my messy hair or catch my breath.

Just as my hand reached for the doorknob, a rush of voices, loud and jarring, suddenly spilled out from inside the room.
