Heart-shaped Wound Exposes His Affair
Chapter 3
Leaving the hospital, I dragged my weak body to a print shop to print a divorce agreement.
In the agreement, we'd split the assets fifty-fifty.
Consider it repaying the debt of him saving my life years ago.
From then on, we'd be even.
Then I bought some nutritional supplements, planning to visit Nancy one last time.
This marriage was a disaster, but Nancy had truly treated me well.
Back then, when everyone disapproved of our relationship with its age gap, she stood behind me and told people I was the best daughter-in-law.
Even after I lost the baby, she cared for me without disgust until my body recovered.
I grew up in a foster home and never experienced a mother's love.
In my heart, she was no different from a real mother.
But before I could enter, I saw Nancy holding a young woman's hand, her face beaming with joy.
"Lincoln, Rachel as a daughter-in-law-beautiful and highly educated-I'm completely satisfied."
"You two are the real perfect match, so much more compatible than that old woman Gianna with her advanced age and low education."
Daughter-in-law? Old woman?
I covered my mouth in disbelief, unable to believe these words came from the usually kind Nancy.
Over these years, I'd had countless opportunities to advance my education.
But to maintain this family's stable income, I gave them all up.
Even though I lost promotion opportunities because of it, I never complained.
Nancy knew all of this!
Yet now she said such things?
My hands trembled uncontrollably, but I suppressed the urge to push through the door and kept watching.
Seeing Lincoln hesitate, Nancy spoke with displeasure.
"Lincoln, you're not still hung up on that hen who can't lay eggs, are you?"
Lincoln instinctively frowned and pulled Nancy aside.
"Gianna's miscarriage was because you drugged her since you didn't want her to have the baby."
"The divorce-we'll talk about it later..."
Before he could finish, Nancy sharply interrupted.
"Lincoln, don't forget why you married her!"
"If our family hadn't been struggling and needed her salary to pay your tuition, I never would have agreed to you marrying her."
"These seven years, we've been good enough to her. We've done our duty."
"Are you really going to let her keep the title of Mrs. Wright forever, making Rachel's baby a bastard as soon as it's born?"
Lincoln's mouth moved as if he wanted to say something.
But in the end, he nodded.
"Fine. I understand."
I covered my mouth tightly to keep from crying out loud.
This was the husband I'd sacrificed my future for, year after year.
This was Nancy, whom I'd loved and trusted as a second mother.
And it turned out that my "accidental" miscarriage was a murder orchestrated by the baby's own grandmother.
This marriage I'd worn like a badge of honor was nothing but an elaborate con, meticulously crafted by the entire Wright family.
And I, the biggest fool of all, had given them my whole heart.
In that moment, overwhelming hatred nearly consumed me.
I bit down hard on my lower lip, letting the taste of blood spread through my mouth.
After a long while, I tremblingly called my lawyer.
"Help me draft a new divorce agreement and send it over."
"I want Lincoln to leave with nothing."
