"Stop!"
They both turned around.
Nora rolled her eyes at me impatiently.
Zane looked at me for a moment and then smiled knowingly.
"Honey, you can't stand being apart from me, right? I heard women get clingy after giving birth. Looks like it's true!"
"Or are you jealous? Don't worry, I won't let her sit in the passenger seat."
I'm disgusted. Enough, please.
The police will be here soon, and I don't want to waste time finding my daughter.
To avoid alerting them, I put on a weak front.

"Stop right there!"
Both of them turned around.
Nora gave me an exasperated eye roll.
Zane studied me for a moment, then smirked knowingly.
"Honey, are you having trouble letting me go? I heard new moms get especially attached. Guess it’s true!"
"Or maybe you're jealous? Don’t worry, she won’t be in the front seat."
That’s nauseating. Spare me.
The police will be here soon, and I don’t want to waste time.
To keep things calm, I feigned weakness:
"Sweetheart, I’m feeling so weak and can’t eat. Could you peel an apple for me? Let’s leave a bit later."
Zane agreed and sat beside me with a fruit knife, ready to feed me piece by piece.
Meanwhile, Nora lay resting on another hospital bed, looking even more frail than me.
My mother-in-law had just prepared baby formula and was feeding the baby.
Soon enough, the police arrived.
