The Stray Cat I Rescued Won’t Let My Husband Near Me
Chapter 2
The next morning, I suddenly heard a few meows from the living room.
Before I could even wonder, my bedroom door swung open.
A fluffy body pounced on me.
It was Mittens! The stray cat I’d rescued!
How was it back in the house?
"Sarah, I got an emergency notice for a week-long business trip. I had no choice but to bring Mittens back to you. I’ll pick her up in a week!"
Chloe’s figure appeared in the doorway.
She looked rushed, clearly in a hurry to leave.
I got up, hugging Mittens, and instinctively glanced at David.
His back was to me; I couldn’t see his expression.
But when he turned around, he was beaming.
"Of course, she can stay! Honestly, Sarah regretted giving her away right after, and so did I!"
"Oh?"
A flicker of suspicion crossed Chloe's face.
I’d told her how much David hated this cat.
She must have been as surprised as I was by his sudden change of heart.
"Perfect then. I have to go now. You two take care!"
Chloe said, her tone heavy with unspoken meaning, and then opened the door and left.
As she vanished, David’s smile slowly faded.
He took Mittens from my arms, his face dark with menace, staring at me.
Every hair on my body stood on end.
