The World Crumbled, and So Did My Marriage

Chapter 4

Familiar voices drifted in from the foyer—it was Victoria and Julian.

They had no idea I was home. They were already tangled up at the entrance, trading soft laughs and whispering sweet nothings.

Their lips pressed together in a passionate, lingering kiss.

Their giggles and low murmurs cut through the quiet air like razors.

I stood behind the door, watching them through the crack.

Victoria's face was flushed with happiness. She leaned into Julian's embrace, completely absorbed in their private little world, entirely oblivious to everything around them.

Suddenly, they seemed to sense something. Their movements froze, and their eyes snapped toward the hallway.

When they caught sight of me, pure shock washed over their faces.

A flicker of panic crossed Victoria's eyes, quickly overtaken by defensiveness and anger.

Noticing her belongings scattered across the floor, she immediately went on the attack:

"What the hell happened here?! Logan, what is your problem? Why are all my clothes on the floor?!"

"Why do you have to make a drama out of everything? The second you come home, you throw a tantrum like a child. Can't you act like an adult for once?"

I stared at her, an icy smirk forming on my face. Throwing a tantrum? Acting like a child?

Coming from her, those words were dripping with sickening hypocrisy.

When had she ever considered my feelings? When had she ever cared about what I was going through?

All she knew was how to take and demand, never offering an ounce of care in return.

I fired back, my voice laced with unmistakable venom and disgust:

"Who do you think you are? You think you can walk all over my feelings forever? Let me tell you something, Victoria—I'm done. I am sick to death of your lies and your pathetic cheating!"

"I bought every single thing in this place. The lease is under my name. If I want to throw your junk out, that's my right!"

My words hit hard, catching her off guard. Before Victoria could recover, Julian stepped forward.

His eyes were rimmed with red, his fists clenched tight in a display of righteous, wounded endurance:

"That's enough, Logan! You're crossing the line! How can you treat Victoria like this?"

"She only missed your hospital stay because I had a severe migraine! To humiliate her like this... do you even love her?"

I was genuinely stunned. The sheer shamelessness of this guy was astonishing.

I threw my hands up in mock surrender.

"Right, right. You caught me. I don't love her at all. No one in the world loves Victoria more than you, Julian."

"So don't look so heartbroken. From now on, you're the one who gets to shower her with gifts and wait on her hand and foot."

Julian's face flushed bright red, shifting between embarrassment and panic. Clearly, he hadn't anticipated this reaction. He quickly stammered:

"No, Logan... that's not what I meant. Please, don't fight because of me!"

Victoria seemed stunned by my words as well. She froze for a moment, then visibly softened her demeanor.

"Logan, it's not what you think. Julian and I are just friends. We just talk sometimes."

"He... he only walked me home today. Don't blow this out of proportion."

Her voice carried a pleading undertone, desperately wanting me to swallow the lie.

Yet I could never believe another word out of her mouth.

I looked at the face that once made my heart race, now utterly grotesque and unrecognizable.

I knew she was no longer the woman I loved. She had turned into someone I couldn't stand being in the same room with.

I stared at her coldly.

"Save your breath! Do you think I'm blind? Did you think I didn't see your lips locked together two seconds ago?"

"Do you take me for an idiot? What part of you is left to trust? Every single day I was bleeding in that hospital bed, you were busy playing house with Julian!"

Victoria's face drained of color. She parted her lips to say something, but the words died in her throat.

She lowered her head, looking like a caught child faking regret.

Beside her, Julian stood with a smug, victorious gleam hidden in his eyes.

I turned my back, refusing to look at either of them for another second.

I knew this marriage was dead in the water. No amount of effort could ever fix it.

It was time to let go and free myself from this toxic nightmare.

Without hesitation, I said the words I should have spoken long ago:

"Victoria, I want a divorce."
