Chapter 2

I own several properties, a few commercial shops, and a company, bringing in millions each year. While not extremely wealthy, I could be considered well-off.

In my previous life, when Lily brought Jack home to meet me, I didn't approve of their relationship. Lily thought I looked down on poor people and only loved wealth, resenting me deeply.

But she didn't know that I disliked Jack not because he was poor, but because of his terrible family situation.

Jack came from a poor family in the countryside, the only son after three daughters. Rural families were generally not well-off, and Jack's was no exception.

They married off their eldest daughter to a man in his forties, using the bride price to send Jack to a good high school. For college tuition, they married the second daughter to a disabled man, and the third to an abusive alcoholic.

In short, they married their daughters to whoever offered the highest bride price, blatantly selling their daughters.

While some families favored sons over daughters, it was rare to see it taken to this extreme.

Lily had been pampered by me since childhood, and I couldn't bear to see her step into this fire pit.

I told her about the situation, but to my surprise, she said she already knew. She claimed her sisters were willing to contribute to the family, proving the deep bond between siblings.

Seeing that I couldn't persuade her, I could only prove my disapproval through actions. As a result, she threatened to sever our mother-daughter relationship!

Even worse, to get my assets, she caused me to have a car accident, leaving me paralyzed and immobile.

Finally, she deliberately hired a caregiver who had a record of "taking care" of several employers to death.

And then, I was "cared" to death!!
