Chapter 2
Simons and I had been married for ten years, the model couple in our friends' eyes.
He once shared his vision of our future with me—if we remained childless our whole lives, we'd move into a nursing home in our old age and grow old together.
But tonight's events completely shattered my dream of spending a lifetime with my beloved.
Simons left on a last-minute business trip. After boarding the plane, he sent me a million-dollar transfer and a farewell message.
He confessed his seven-year betrayal and expressed his determination.
[Seven years ago, I fell in love with a woman. At that moment, I decided to spend my life with her.]
[Igor, I'm sorry. But I cannot go against my heart's decision.]
He gave me the million dollars he'd earned these past years as compensation, while also showing his resolve.
After leaving the country, he would register his marriage with his lover abroad.
He left me not a single shred of hope to keep him.
Ten years of companionship—seven of them apparently mixed with deception.
I sat quietly in the cold, silent living room, my heart pounding like a drum, yet unable to shed a single tear.
He had chosen his timing well. The plane was taking off right now.
With this departure, he left me full of resentment.
With anger building in my chest, I simply got up and rushed into the bedroom, taking down the huge wedding photo from above the bed.
It crashed to the ground!
I decisively pressed the lighter. Just as the flame was about to lick the photograph, urgent knocking came from the door.
The visitor was in such a hurry they didn't even leave a word.
When I opened the door, an anonymous package lay quietly on the ground.
Last year, Simons had used the same trick.
When I opened the package, he jumped out from the shadows holding a bouquet of flowers and embraced me.
"Igor, happy ninth anniversary!"
Seeing the package, my heart filled with a bit of hope.
Could Simons have calculated that today was our tenth anniversary and deliberately prepared a surprise for me?!
Suppressing my excited heart, I opened the package, but what scattered out was evidence of crime covering the floor.
A young woman with a charming face, leaning against Simons in different poses.
The two shopping at the mall, going to candlelit dinners together, even intimately entwined in our shared car...
The photos fell one by one, revealing a picture of the two embracing in an airplane cabin, forming a heart shape.
Words were attached:
[Simons & Yael Forever in Love]
The woman's gaze deliberately turned toward me, revealing a victorious smile.
Though it was clearly an extremely provocative act, my heart transformed from anger to fear.
Suppressing my terror, I took a deep breath and dialed the emergency number.
"I want to report a body hidden on Flight CZ3218!"
"And the deceased is my husband Simons..."
